I get asked this all the time, why did I stop eating meat, dairy, eggs and other animal-based products. So I thought if people are so interested in the why I might as well make a blog post about it.
So this whole process of cutting out animal products started when I was quite young. I never really liked the taste or texture of meat. When I was growing up the only meat I really liked was chicken and fish. All the other meats mum had to trick me into eating. As I got older though I just learnt that I had to eat what was put in front of me so I just assumed I had to eat meat. As I got into my teens I had friends that were vegetarian and realised I didn't have to eat meat. Because of this, I started to make little changes, for example when we had a BBQ I would have a veggie burger instead of sausages. I started looking up vegetarian recipes and trying new things.
Then when I was 18 and due to my work situations, I was eating at random times and making my own meals I thought why do I need to keep cooking and eating meat when I don't even like it. So one day I decided to just go cold turkey and just stop eating meat. And now at 22 I still haven't eaten any meat since. From that day and looking into vegetarianism I also started to learn about veganism. And here is the thing I always had milk because I thought that was the only way I could get calcium, but it always gave me a bit of an upset stomach. So when I realised that you could get calcium from other sources I decided to swap my cows milk to plant-based milk such as soy, coconut and almond milk. Once I gave up the dairy it wasn't really hard to give up eggs as well, especially seeing as I only really had them in baking.
However now that I have learnt so much more about the health, environmental and moral benefits I don't think I will ever go back to eating animal products. For those of you who are interested in finding out more about eating plant-based then click here.
