So, you have probably noticed over the last few years there has been a rise in places where you can get smoothies and pressed juices. And they are of course all over Instagram and social media looking so pretty and delicious. But maybe you have tried making one and it just doesn’t turn out as good as the pictures, and worse than that it just tastes horrible. Don’t worry I am here to help! And you will have delicious and healthy smoothies in no time.
But first, drinking a smoothie every day can provide the average person with an incredible amount of benefits. Too many people don’t get the vitamins and minerals they need on a daily basis. Whilst it is always better to chew your food sometimes it is just not convenient, or you just don’t have enough time. Which is why I have a smoothie most days, as it is a great way to look after your health.
There are way too many benefits to go through in one blog post. So, I am going to tell you about my favourite 5 benefits.
Benefit One - Improvement to your digestion
The first one being your digestion will improve. This is a big benefit for many people and is the main reason that people include a smoothie in their everyday menu. However, if you want to experience better movement in your abdomen, you can’t just make any old smoothie. You will want to be consuming a smoothie that is high in fibre. Therefore, you will want to include ingredients like greens, flax seeds, nut butter and probiotics. This will be better for improving your digestion that a smoothie made only of fruit.
Benefit Two - Help build a strong immune system
The 2nd benefit is you will develop a strong immune system. A healthy diet will help you fight disease and build a strong immune system. But many of us just aren’t having the right amount of fruit, vegetables, vitamins and minerals daily. This is where daily smoothies can help. You can include many immune system boosting ingredients into any smoothie that you might not have otherwise. These ingredients will help you battle everything from the common cold to a suppressed immune system.
To make a cold-fighting smoothie, you want to make sure you add in plenty of vitamin C. You can get vitamin c from fruit sources like oranges and berries. Which also taste delicious.
Benefit Three - You will have more servings of fruit and vegetables per day
So, these first two benefits are pretty good, right? Well, we still have 3 more benefits to go. And I know this one can be hard for many people. Many of us will know we are meant to have 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day, but that can be really hard for some people. Most of us are so busy with everything that is going on in our lives that it can feel impossible to cook a healthy dinner. And if it is hard to cook dinner, it is even harder to take the time to count the micronutrients. If you are always on the go, a good smoothie is a great way to ensure that you are getting the nutrition you need.
And to be honest, getting these nutrients is only to help you more if you live a busy life. The nutrients you consume allow you to function on the highest level possible.
When you increase the amount of raw fruit and vegetables you consume, you will notice that you will sleep better, have fewer sick days, have more energy and a general feeling of well-being.
Benefit Four - Stay full and hydrated
On to the fourth benefit, who struggles with feeling hydrated and full? I know I struggle to remember to drink water throughout the day. But hydration is one of the most important facets of human life.
The combination of added water and water derived from fruits and vegetables will help you feel both hydrated and full after you consume your smoothie. Smoothies are a great way to get plenty of water into your system. You even have the added benefit of combining your hydration with a smorges board of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. You might even want to consider adding coconut water into your smoothies instead of normal water. Coconut water can provide extra hydration because it also contains electrolytes. These electrolytes help you rehydrate the same way that sports drinks do. But without the added sugar!
Benefit 5 - Helps reduce cravings
The last benefit I want to talk about tonight is that a smoothie a day can help you reduce and even get rid of your cravings. Many of the cravings people experience are phantom cravings. When you feel like you want a big bar of chocolate, what your body is really missing is magnesium. If you want to get your hands on a soft drink, you may be low in calcium. Of course, many cravings are also due to intense sugar addiction. Most people do not realise how much they rely on sugar until they try to cut their sugar intake.
But a smoothie day can help you nix all these cravings. When you get all the nutrients that you need, your body will not go looking for them in other places. When you have an intense craving, you should be reaching for a healthy smoothie instead. You will often find that you feel more satisfied after a smoothie that you do give in to an unhealthy craving.
The things that you experience when you drink a smoothie every day will leave you feeling like the happiest and healthiest you. Once you experience what it feels like to be well-rested, fully hydrated and full of all of the nutrients you need, you may find that smoothies become your new craving.
